Willie Nelson Announces 2018 Outlaw Music Festival Tour Feat. Sturgill Simpson and More

Willie Nelson has announced that his Outlaw Music Festival tour will return again in 2018, kicking off its first leg in Raleigh, N.C. on May 25. This tour marks the second year that the festival has occurred in the form of a traveling show, and will extend at least through July 1, although more dates are expected to be announced.

Rolling Stone reports that tickets for the 2018 festival, which is a production of Blackbird Presents, will go on sale on Friday, March 16. Nelson will head out on the road just a few weeks after his 85th birthday. Nelson has come under a significant amount of scrutiny regarding his health over the past year, most recently after he canceled a string of tour dates in February of 2018  in order to recover from a bout with the flu.

However, the legendary singer quickly proved that he had lost neither his health nor his spirit. In mid-February, Nelson announced a new album, Last Man Standing, to arrive in April. That album will arrive almost exactly a year after the singer’s most recent release, God’s Problem Childand just two days before the his birthday.

Last year’s Outlaw Music Festival featured big names such as Bob Dylan and Jason Isbell as well as relative up-and-comers like Hayes Carll and Margo Price, and it seems that this year’s event will be upholding that tradition.

The festival’s headlining acts will be Nelson and Sturgill Simpson, as well as other big names such as Alison Krauss, Elvis Costello and Old Crow Medicine Show. Additionally, however, Nelson’s line-up will include fresh faces in country music: Brandi Carlile, Ryan Bingham and rockabilly singer songwriter JD McPherson are all slotted to appear.

Stay tuned for more announcements and tour dates: Last year, Nelson added a surprise second leg of the 2017 Outlaw Music Festival, featuring appearances by Eric Church, over a month after originally announcing his tour stops. Here are the tour dates for the 2018 Outlaw Music Festival so far:
